The Irrigation Research & Extension Committee – a forum for irrigators

The Irrigation Research and Extension Committee (IREC) coordinates research and extension relevant to irrigated agriculture in the Murrumbidgee Valley of New South Wales.

The organisation plays a pivotal role in providing a forum for irrigators, irrigation industry professionals, and research and advisory groups to engage on issues of common interest and concern.

The activities of IREC are diverse and wide-ranging and include:

• management of a range of research and extension projects, investigating and communicating best practice options for irrigators
• hosting irrigated farm competitions, to recognise excellence in irrigation practice
• extension of research information through the hosting of seminars and field days
• extension of research and advisory information through its magazine, the Farmers’ Newsletter

IREC has been active in the Murrumbidgee Valley since 1939.
