Irrigated Farm Competition/Showcase Dinner

The Irrigated farm Competition was run by IREC from 1980 – 2006. The competition highlighted and applauded good agronomic, business and resource management.

The event included a field day to the winner’s property and a presentation dinner, which many high profile guests attended over the years.

The event overall provided a great platform to showcase efficient and successful irrigation farming. With the onset of the drought, the competition was suspended as most farmers were not operating to their full capabilities.

Showcase Dinner

In 2007 and 2008 the Irrigated Farm Competition was replaced with a Showcase Dinner, highlighting the success of particular irrigators. The 2007 dinner showcased all the past winners of the Farm Competition.

The 2008 Showcase Dinner was run in conjunction with the Irrigated Cropping Forum and profiled some irrigators whose stories were featured in “Lifting Irrigated Cropping Profitability and Water Use Efficiency” – a publication from ICF and GRDC.

Jason Mitchell and Ian Sutherland were two farmers from that book who presented on the night.
